Is there a bug for users with periods or dashes in their name

For users who use periods or dashes in their names they get the following error message:

Maybe it's their avatar then. I tried updating the counters in admincp for avatars but that didn't seem to work.

One of my members has a profile picture which they updated to a NEW picture however it is still showing the old profile pictures in the old posts. Is there somewhere I can go to update things?

The problem is if I do {John Smith} then all the words containing "John" will be censored so "John Paul" "John Jameson" ect... when all I really want is "John Smith"...
