4.2.1 to 4.2.3 - do I upgrade PHP before or after?

I'm planning to upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.2.3 however I'm currently using PHP 4. My host offers PHP 5.5 or 5.6. I'm not sure of the sequence of events here. Do I upgrade VB first and then PHP...or is it...

Thanks Idove - that looks like just the thing. One other question - I've read somewhere that to go from (say) 3.07 to 3.54 I have to upgrade to each intermediate release in order. Does the installer do...

Yes Steve. It needs to be totally separate from the production forum so I can practice the upgrade.

I need to upgrade from 3.0.7 to latest so I want to practise this on a copy of my production forum. Can somebody please point me to somewhere that describes how to create the clone ? I'm slightly worried...

I've just added 2 users to the Super Moderators group but when I click Show All Moderators I'm not seeing anybody. Should I be seeing them there ?
