example.com/forum is just the folder that holds your subdomain info. When you setup your forum in admincp you have to tell vb where your forum is located. I assume you put forum.example.com for this,...

Looking at my 3.8...which I am assuming is the same for 4.0, here's what to do. If all else fails, maybe someone else can help.

Looks like you'll have to edit them one by one and delete /forums from each one or maybe someone can post a command for the database to find and replace the urls. If you do a search for find and replace...
