I'm running 4.0.3 how can I add drop down options for 1 day, 5 day, 30 day, etc., to the new posts link in the navbar?

It's covering the Welcome part of the username after logged in if you don't have a profile picture. Can we move it over to the left more?

Is there a way to add a image button for posting like VB 3.x where you click it and it brings up a window asking for the URL then displays the full size image without a thumbnail? Thanks!
