vBulletin 3 shows your pm status on every page, in the navbar. It's a lot easier to notice.
If you want to turn it on for every user, you will have to run a query:
UPDATE...

vb2 has the admin directory hardcoded in. You need to open each file in the admin dir and change references from admin/ to your new path.

you can't exactly "get new templates". If you don't like the colors, well... modify them. You can get template modifications at vbtemplates.com
