According to the vB mod control panel, we have 36 mods. I'm not sure if this is counting all our staff as it sounds low.

On Windows VMWare is great, but on OS X I've had a few problems with their beta offering. I'm sure they will catch up quickly, but for the time being Parallels leads the way for me....

Parallels. I was using the VMWare beta but it gave me a couple kernel panics and I decided Parallels is worth the cost....

I used to use mysqlhotcopy all the time, it's great in theory and works well if you have slow disks, but pray you never have to restore. I always had to repair my tables which took a not so insignificant...

SketchUp is pretty easy to use. Blender is another option and is more complicated, but more difficult to learn as well.
Both are free. I "designed" my desk in SketchUp.
