Switch to SMTP of some sort.

I would at least suggest using the SMTP options available from your webhost.

SendGrid also has a less than 10k emails per month free plan. A few friends are using it without issues.

There isn't Username functionality in vBulletin 4.2.0. First, upgrade to 4.2.3, and then try disabling ALL of your third party addons.

Did you make sure to use the full system path and not a local path when doing the attachment import?

vBulletin 5 now depends/uses bcrypt instead of md5. The links TLMD gave should be helpful....

It appears at some point mybb changed to use ip2long instead of storing the ip address normally. I responded on the tracker with a fix to get users importing I think. Let me know if you get stuck somewhere...

What is your ip address for that user in the mybb user table?
