This error seems to occur when a navigation item becomes its own parent. You can find this out by using MySQL to run the following query:
Code:SELECT * FROM navigation WHERE name = parent;

The blog comments use the thumbnails, I believe. Make sure your customavatars/thumbs directory is 777 as well, then go to Admin CP -> Maintenance -> General Update Tools and rebuild custom avatar...
