I also encountered the similar problem. When working for one of my client I found that AJAXBASEURL does not have www in the url and my client site has WWW in the urls and so was breaking the Ajax requests....

I have reported this as Bug and I have found a very crude way to handle this.

I have had similar problem for my forum and what I did is I restricted http / www and other urls for members having posts less than 10 and that has worked like wonders. I did not found anything of this...
