The way I understand it is that the OP is asking whether or not there are any good reasons why they can't set up a forum that isn't displayed in the forum index, but is still reachable using the forums...

I don't see the problem as long as it's made very clear that the subscription is a recurring one. Perhaps provide it as an option along with a single payment cycle option.

True, but what's to stop someone who knows the outcome of a straight MD5 hash without a salt trying to recreate the same MD5 hash themselves by brute force?

Is it possible to set a forum to be viewable from the main forum index to all visitors (so even unregistered people know it exists), but only registered members would be able to actually view the threads...
