How do you hide the "What's going on?" part on the main page?

I want to be able to see it as a moderator...but i don't want registered or unregisterd guests to be able to see...

I started my Forum 3 days ago...and it was loading really quickly. Then I had people start to sign-up...only about 50 have...and now the forum is running so slow.
