Limit a user's sig to show up once per thread?

Is there a way to limit a user's signature from showing more than once per thread? I want it to show up only on their first post if they enable it and on the rest of their replies, not show it anymore?...

i should be able to just encrypt the password passed in through the forms and compare it as you mentioned. however, do i need to set up a specific key to pass into the md5 function?
