Do vB boards get indexed by search engines (Google etc.)?

There is are a few hacks in vB2 to make your board SE-friendly for spidering.
vB3 has the archive feature (there is a link in the footer of this page) that lists the threads, etc., wih links to the actual threads for SE-friendliness.

That said, vB2 still gets spidered by any engine that doesn't have a problem with the question mark in the URL (query strings).

If you are looking for an archive-type functionality, you'd need to use vB3.
For links in the format of
      mysite.com/forum/t2534.html
(for thread #2534) that would require hacking vB2 and vB3.

        Sorry, where? Can't find anything...

Does Google have problems with that?

          1) Bottom of this page, the link labeled Archive.

          2) No.

Quite incorrect - search engine spiders are halted by sessions IDs. The hack for vB 2addresses this issue. In vB 3 it is hardcoded into the software.

So the correct answer is that Google et al have no problem - so long as session IDs for that particular spider are disabled.

So you're saying that with vB3 this will be a non-issue - all search engines will index vB3 boards?

Actually, it's very very easily addressed ni vB 2.3 - the hack for Google indexing is an astonishing 1 line long.

And in vB 3 it should be a complete non-issue. No problems at all with my first vB 3 - and not expecting indexing probs with a 2nd I'm installing next week.
