'Best'? Not necessarily. As I said vB3 is in public beta testing right now.

vB 3 has been released as a beta version for our customers. They have the choice of upgrading their forums to the beta if they want. However the last stable and fully supported release is 2.3.2.

    From the Purchase page at:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/order/

    Leased License - $85

A leased license grants you the right to run vBulletin on one web server and one web site for each license purchased for 1 year from the date of order. Each license may power one instance of vBulletin on one domain. During the year, you will have unlimited access to the member area, where you can download updated versions of the software. At the end of the year, you must purchase another license in order to continue to run vBulletin.

    Owned License - $160

An owned license grants you the right to run vBulletin on one web server and one web site for each license purchased for an unlimited time. Each license may power one instance of vBulletin on one domain. Included in this package is one year's access to the member area, where you can download updated versions of the software. If you require access to the member area after the year has elapsed, you can renew your access for $30 per year.

Shared hosting means that your site is on the same computer (server) as a bunch of other people's sites that have hosting with that company. You share system resources with these other people. You have to get your own domain regardless.

Currently the stable version of vBulletin is vBulletin 2.3.2.
The beta release is vBulletin 3 (in Beta 5). It has one more beta release before the Release Candidate stage of testing.
There is no definite timeframe for a release of a stable (aka gold) version of vBulletin 3.0.0.

Shared hosting means your are on a server with others that the company hosts. A dedicated server you have all to yourself.

Upgrades are easy, but you will have to re-install all hacks for each upgrade.
    --
Upgrades are free for the first year.
With an owned license you then have the OPTION of paying $30 to renew your download access for 1 year.

Most hacks are fairly easy to install, though some basic PHP knowledge will make it even easier. If you don't know PHP you shouldn't have a problem if the author including instructions that are detailed enough.

Thanx...I still dont really understand shared hosting I would be able to choose my own domain what is the difference...And when do ya think da next vbulletin is comin out like vbulletin 3.3 cus if its close i can jus wait for that 2 come instead of buying 3.22 now
