  • "use persistant connections"?

    What is "persistant connections"
    What exactly does this refer too?

    // use persistant connections to the database// 0 = don't use// 1 = use$usepconnect = 0;

    Did you purchase vBulletin yet? - If so, could you please add your email address to the list located at http://www.vbulletin.com/members/forums.php for Priority Member Support and to show you are a licensed member. This will give you access to the vB Support on these forums.

    You'll need to have your customer number and password to access that page. Thanks!

      No, I did not purchase it yet. This is a PRE sales question.The reason that I am asking is because, in order for me to decide whether or not to purchase this software at this time, I first need to know, if I have all the required knowledge and technical expertise to be able to install it all myself without having to spend extra $ for a professional installation.

      In order for me to determine if I have the required expertise I decided to first download and examine your installation instructions and to see if I understand what you are talking about and to determine if I will be able to do it all by myself.

      As I was looking through your installation instructions and the required input, (by me if I had to install it), I found the reference to "persistent connections" and I have no idea what you are talking about or how I would be able to answer that question.

      If anyone knows what this means, please let me know.

      Thanks

        Persistant connections just mean that a MySQL connection is kept open (i.e., persistent) as a user browses the forums. This has a very slight advantage in making the connections faster, but at a disadvantage of using up more connections. (Servers are set with a limited number of MySQL connections they allow.) I've never seen a measurable imporvement in speed with persistant connections on, so I usually recommend turning this feature off.
