  • Migrating 3.8.9 to V5

I had previously bought versions 3, 4 and 5. My issue is that I want to migrate my old forum at daycare.com/forum to the newest v5 version on another server where I have forum.daycare.com which is v5.

I am willing to pay for all three versions again to have someone do the migration, no matter the cost. Is that possible? The old forum does not have to merge with the newer forum if that is not possible. I would be willing to just have the old forum migrated to 5.0. I have a dedicated server that also uses cPanel.

You can just upgrade a vBulletin 3 forum straight to vBulletin 5. This will work with any version from vB 3.6 upwards.

We can perform the upgrade for you for $149. You don’t need the vB3 files on the new server, just the database.

I can create access to the cpanel and ftp. Is there a place I can purchase this with instructions to move forward? The dbdump is almost 6 gig

Firstly, we won't handle the server move - you will need to move the database yourself. After this is done, we can then perform the upgrade for you.

You can order the Professional Upgrade service by going here:

Click on the 'Login' link at the top, log into your account, then press 'Purchase', scroll down, and then click the 'Get Add-Ons' button. You will see 'Professional Installation/Upgrade' - choose that and continue to follow the instructions from there.

Once you purchase the upgrade service you will need to enter the Member's Area at members.vbulletin.com to fill out the Worksheet located under the License Details & Options section. The worksheet asks for these details.

        - FTP server, username and password
        - MySQL server, username, password and database name
        - URL of homepage and forums
        - Forum Admin login info

Additionally, you can provide the cPanel URL and login information in the Notes field, particularly if we may need to change PHP versions etc. If your site had more than 1m posts on it, having Terminal available in cPanel will allow us to run the upgrade as this won't run on a web interface.

Once that form is filled out and submitted correctly, the installation/upgrade enters our queue. Pro Installs/Upgrade are assigned in the order they are received and depending on the size of the queue, it can take up to 7 business days before a support team members claims your Install/Upgrade (depending on the number of other requests in the queue and their complexity).

Upgrading will always overwrite any hacks or changes you made to the vB files. However you will have to disable and/or remove any add-ons prior to upgrading. After the upgrade you can contact the authors of those add-ons to see if they have updated versions.

Also any custom vB 3.x styles and templates will not be compatible with vB4 or vB5, and vB4 styles and templates will not be compatible with vB5. You will have to redo your customizations after upgrading.

I paid for the 'Professional Installation/Upgrade" but in the License Details & Options section, I can not find the worksheet. Looks like I paid for three v5 but I am only currently using one at forum.daycare.com. I would like to use one of the other licenses for this worksheet at chat.daycare.com

How do I go about doing this? Which one of the licenses do I use? I have mapped and created the chat.daycare.com website and I will upload the 6 gig file. I want to make sure that v5 is installed and the V3.8.9 database will be able to be installed in the fresh V5 on the new server.

Once I can locate the worksheet, I can then imput all the access info for

          - FTP server, username and password
          - MySQL server, username, password and database name
          - URL of homepage and forums
          - Forum Admin login info

I was emailed this link but it is not working
          <link including license number removed>

Your purchase has probably been referred for a manual review by our sales processor. They'll contact you shortly to approve this at which point the worksheet will show.

You should have added the Professional Upgrade as an add-on to the specific license you wished to upgrade. If it's showing against the wrong license once the purchase is reviewed, let the technician who is assigned your upgrade know when they contact you.

I am a bit confused on all my licenses and which are in use. I know that Daycare.com/forum is using v3.8.9 but I also paid for v4 and v5. Forum.Daycare.com is using V5. I will await their email as to the next step.

I've removed the image as this showed your License numbers off to the world! Please open a ticket with sales[at]vbulletin.com and we can look at specifics and then reference individual license numbers...

Hi, I added all the information over a week ago. I have not heard anything back yet. Is there a way to see the progress?

The database has to be restored on that server. We cannot restore a database backup.

I do not understand. I mentioned in the OP that the older version forum was on another server and I wanted to update it to a new server with V5. How would I go about doing that? I can try to move the whole forum to the new server but I am unsure if the php 7.1 will work with the v3.8.9

                        If so would that work?

We don't need vBulletin 3.8.9 to work on the new server. All of the PHP and Javascript files will just be deleted anyway.
                          1. Turn off your vBulletin on the old server displaying a message that the software is being upgraded.
                          2. You would move the database to the new server and restore it using the tools provided by the hosting provider.
                          3. Then we can perform the upgrade by uploading the vBulletin 5 files and running the upgrade script. This can be done by IP address if necessary.
                          4. Once the upgrade is completed, update the DNS to point to the new server.
