There is nothing available from vBulletin. It would be something for a third party.

Does vBulletin have a site where users can submit/buy/sell their own plugins like other forum systems?

I'll add a personal viewpoint to this as well....

Forums will be severely damaged if things like AI autoresponders become prevalent.

The purpose of a forum is discussion between people. As soon as members get wind that what they are getting in response is just an AI bot, they will desert the platform.

I can see a very limited scope if someone has a support forum and the same questions get asked repeatedly, but even then I think it will cause untold damage to the concept of forums (which are already hit by social media such as Facebook and Twitter).

Now, a support chat facility, yes, I can see the benefits of AI there, but not in a forum. I'd advise anyone considering deploying an AI bot to a forum to think very carefully about what they want.

The closest I can think of was that phase a decade or so back of forums trying to generate activity by using "paid posting" services. Even though that was actually real people for the most part, it still stood out like a sore thumb in any forum, and just drove people away.

As always, individual use cases may vary, and I'm sure there are some where it might be useful.

Yeah I understand your view. I wont be adding it to any existing forums of mine but wanted to test on a new one in certain use cases.

Thanks, yes my signature is messed up, I’ll fix it shortly. Complex story as to how it ended up that way…

An understandable reaction and it's still early days but so far the polar opposite is true. Forums that have it installed are benefiting greatly because of a huge increase in activity from their existing membership.

Installed as a resource rather than a sock puppet it attracts interaction from members like nothing I've seen in over 20 years of running forums. Obviously a large amount of that interaction is directly with ChatGPT but as I'm sure you are aware, getting members to post on your forum is a battle won and in every instance I've seen that increased level of activity is not just confined to banter with the bot.

This of course is just an early version. Subsequent versions are likely to have applications we can't yet imagine with real applications for all social media including forums such as the ability to moderate. If forums want to stay in the game they need to embrace AI and not be afraid of it.

yeah ive seen other forum software with it and its very promising.

the main issue is that for vb5 there is literallt no third party developers due to how bad the code was when it first released😩

We don't provide a paid modification service, and we also don't allow paid requests on here, as if we do we are then dragged into disputes over products provided etc.

vbulletin.org is the place to ask, or you could look to engage someone directly. Glenn Vergara, a former vBulletin developer, may be worth talking to: https://vbmods.rocks.

I've been thinking how to incorporate ChatGPT into vB5 forums. My first thought was to have it detect if a post is a spam before the post is saved. Another one is to let ChatGPT find keywords in a post when someone is trying to start a new thread/topic and then feed those keywords in a search to find related topics in the forum.

Depending on forum activity, it may be costly to the forum owners as ChatGPT is not free. You'd have to pay up to $0.06 per 1K tokens for each prompt/request (for ChatGPT-4). One token is approximately 4 characters in English or 1-2 sentence is approximately 30 tokens. See this for more details on how token is counted:
