  • Pretty sure going to upgrade but - couple more questions

    1. With VB5.x will users be able to expand the forum part of the site so that the side bars (recent topics, etc) are not visible?

    2. What built-in anti-spammer features are built in to VB5?

The modules in vB5 don't "collapse" like they did in vB4. You can edit every page individually to place the modules anywhere on a page. You can change the layout of every page. You can add or delete modules as you like. Any way you lay out a page it will be responsive to different screen resolutions.

Let's see. There's Akismet, StopForumSpam, ReCaptcha, the Question And Answer, the ability to block words or links. Those are enough to stop the vast majority of spam from even being able to register.

      1. No. There isn't a horizontal collapse on columns. There is a vertical collapse that users can utilize. However, you can edit the page to fit your user's needs. Remove or add modules, move them to different columns, etc... We even provide a "Classic" home page in the Quick Setup tool so your home page can look like the default vBulletin 3 and 4 homepages.

      2. Basically everything that was available in the popular Glow Host Antispam addon for vBulletin 4.X is available in vBulletin 5. In addition, your moderators can choose what events they get notified about in their Notification settings. Either notifications in the Message Center only or include emails. Plus all moderated posts and flag reports will show in the Message Center so they don't need to visit the ModCP to handle them.

Thanks for the info guys. Sorry to hear about the non-collapsable sides, but very glad to hear that the features in Glow Host (which is what I use) is available natively in V5

Since layout is controlled 100% by CSS and Javascript, it shouldn't have been hard to add horizontal collapsing. The most difficult part would be storing the data across seesions. vBulletin 4 used cookies written by Javascript. vBulletin 5 limits Javascript access to cookies due to security issues. I don't know if anyone has actually created such a modification though. Probably wouldn't even need modification to the default templates.
