    Download Archives - Headaches

Our website has been a vBulletin customer for 16 years - all the way back to when you were just Jelsoft.

Our site has an extensive downloads library which I would like to make available to our members, however historically, there has been a lack of functionality in the vB regimen which has forced me to again and again use hacks to allow access (and forcing me to rebuild the archives each time). In 16 years I have rebuilt the archive no fewer than five times. Things seem to go fine for a while, then the developer dies, the developer stops supporting vB or there's an issue with the new version of vB and the hack in question.

Can vB please offer me some suggestions on what I might do - within your application - to manage documents/files - so that it's all within your upgrade path, and I can stop going to hacks for the functionality? I'm astounded that this issue has not been resolved by now...

    Thanks,
    Sean E.

There is no downloads functionality built into vBulletin, and to be honest it is unlikely this will change. There is no issue to resolve, it isn't a core part of forum functionality.

Probably your best bet if you want to avod add-ons is to make dedicated forum for it, and people can use the attachment system.
