  • Some important questions before buying vBulletin

After 11 years using phpBB I would like to install vBulletin 4. But before, I have some importan questions:

    1. In my current phpbb board I am using these kinds of urls:
    http://forum.domain-online.com/forum1.html (category url)
    http://forum.domain-online.com/topic8945.html (topic url)

Is it possible to use these urls in vBulletin?

    2. Actually there are two more fields in the registration site of my phpBB board... all of the registered users answered two questions and you can see these answers in their profil field. Is it possible to import these informations into vBulletin?

    3. Actually I am using phpBB in the folder 'domain.com/forum' and on the frontpage ('domain.com') I am using Joomla. Now, for both things I want to use VBulletin. How I should start with the installing.... I would like to start with the board. After the install of the board is finished I would like to beginn with the CMS for the frontpage. In which folder I should upload the files of vBulletin?

    4. Is there a German ticket support from vBulletin?

    Hi liz99 ,

    Regarding your message:

are you converting or migrating phpbb to vbulletin? If yes:

    1. In my current phpbb board I am using these kinds of urls:
    http://forum.domain-online.com/forum1.html (category url)
    http://forum.domain-online.com/topic8945.html (topic url)
==> i prefer you will just use a redirection script that will redirect the old url to vbulletin url

    2. Actually there are two more fields in the registration site of my phpBB board... all of the registered users answered two questions and you can see these answers in their profil field. Is it possible to import these informations into vBulletin?
==> Yes it is, we can just create a script to do that.

==> You can temporarily install your new vbulletin.com to a temporarily folder then once you are ready you can rename it. Or translfer the old phpbb in another folder and install directly to 'forum' folder

    4. Is there a German ticket support from vBulletin?
    ==> not sure

    Thanks,
    Kim

I'm not happy with the answer i dont want to use a redirection script.... i want to make it seo friendly. The best way would be if I can use the same urls like in my current board. Perhaps there is a seo mod with which I can do this?

Another questions: In my current phpBB board are lots of images and pdf files in the posts. Will be these files convert to vbulletin, too with using impex?

As far as I know there is no way to keep your old URLs at all. At best you can use a custom redirection script but you'll need to use the VB4 style URLs.

To be honest we have no supported import script at this time. We can't guarantee anything will import. If you are interested in trying Impex, the old import script that has become an Open Source project, you can find out more here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...re-to-download
