  • Mobile App and forum on website

Hello - I am not sure how the mobile app works - I am interested in a forum mobile app that does not have other forums on there, only mine, and would be available for purchase through the app store. I want the end user to use the mobile version only and not on my website. Is the mobile app capable of this? After I purchase the mobile app, can I customize it and set it for sale for whatever price I desire?

Run. Stay away. The mobile platform doesn't work and they won't give you a refund for it.

The current app 1.7 does have a bug that causes Apple to reject the app in many cases- this will be fixed in the upcoming 1.8 of the software. I do strongly suggest anyone interested in the app try it first by downloading the vBulletin Community Forum app from either the iOS or Google stores- this is the same app you will get- you will be able to customize colors and logos though.

As for the original post- our app requires the main forum be accessible by traditional browser until it is setup.

After it is setup I believe it would be possible via custom coding (More easily done with VB4 than VB5) a way to block users from using the web based forum and display a notice that it is only accessible by app.

However, Administrative settings you would need to set/update from time to time would only be accessible via the website.

Please note- we do not provide support for custom coding- we do provide a website, www.vbulletin.org where users can ask questions about custom coding and read-up on how VB works (VB3 and VB4 anyway) so they can make modifications themselves or with the help of an experienced php programmer.

I am considering purchasing the mobile app.
Since apple will not accept 1.7 should I wait for 1.8
What is the anticipated date for 1.8?

        Or

Could I get to work on 1.7 then easily convert it to 1.8 once it is out

        I have vb 4.2.1

You will not be able to use the 1.7 version of the iOS app but you could maybe get a start on the Android app if you purchased now. Otherwise wait until you see we announce the release of Mobile 1.8 so that you can build and use both apps right away.

At this point we are waiting on Apple to approve the app we've submitted to them. Sometimes that takes days, sometimes it takes a couple weeks.

I just had a look at the reviews for the app in the Android store. Not that you can place a huge amount of confidence in the reviews there, but the app is pretty much rubbished by most reviewers. Certainly makes one think!

You can try the app for yourself. Look for vBulletin Community Forum in either the Google or Apple app stores and download it. It will give you mobile access to this forum. It is exactly the same app as users will use to access your own forums except for custom colors and logos you get to choose.
