Lots of folks from other places say 3.8.6 PL1 is the best version (classic and no known exploits), is it still true? Can you please explain why you choose 3.8.7 over 3.8.6 PL1? Thanks a lot! This is pretty important for me.

Who are these other folks and what are their claims? 3.8.7 PL2 is the only supported and current version of vBulletin in the 3.x series.

The 4.2 version of vBulletin has no known exploits and it also packs more features than the 3.8.x series.

4.2 PL2 seems to be stable, as long as you do not start adding un-official modifications you should be fine.
