    I have vb 3.6.8 - WANT 3.8.7 - how ?

In the member area on here, the only version I can download is 3.6.8 patch level 2, but I need to upgrade to 3.8.7 because the ajax.php file in 3.6.8 has a gaping exploit hole in it that allows people to put files onto your server. (I've been victim of malware infections repeatedly over the last week). I have been told in another thread on here to get 3.8.7 - but how?? (feel free to call my an idiot if the option is on the members area screen) :P

You would need to pay for an upgrade to vb4 and then download 3.8.7. Or just upgrade to 4.2.

So if I pay for the upgrade to vB 4, I'll get the download options for 3.8.7 as well?

Yes you can then run EITHER 3.8 OR 4.2.

Excellent! That doesn't seem to be specified on the purchase page. It looks like you're buying VB4. I'll look again.

Now, do I want Publishing Suite or Classic ??

All I want is to keep running my forum. I'm not looking for any bells and whistles addons. I just want to upgrade my vb 3.6.8 to 3.8.7

If you don't need ticket support than you want the Forum. If you need Ticket Support than the Publishing Suite is the better purchase.

You can download the 3.8.7 package with the license you mentioned. Still don't understand why you wouldn't just go with 4.2.

That is true. But you should still test 4.2 on a test Site to see if it would work, you are missing out.
Could you post a link to your Site?

Unfortunately due to the content of the site, I cannot - it's NOT an adult site, but does contain nudity in places. My coder thinks it would be best to go to 3.8.7 so that I don't have to spend thousands for him to extensively re-write all my custom plugins that he's written. He says they'll be far more compatible with 3.8.7 than 4.x -- and I don't need any new features (I thnk) of 4.x - I just need a very basic vB forum setup.

My view is, the poster has an immediate issue with site security. 3.8.7 is his best bet at this stage.

He can do all the 4.2 testing and restyling later on. For now he needs his site securing urgently, and 3.8.7 is the fastest way to do that from 3.6.8.

THat's exactly how I see it. 3.6.8 does EVERYTHING I need it to - except I need better security from malware attacks.

Yes your coder is right...your immediate issues are best solved by upgrading to 3.8.7.

Upgrade a test mirror first, as always.

You can look at 4.2 later should you choose to. Never any need to upgrade just for the sake of it.

3.8.7 is the best approach at this point. Realize your coder will still have to do *some* modification work to get your 3.6.x forum up to 3.8.7. But nothing like the from-the-ground-up rewrite that vBulletin 4.2.x would be.
