  • Supported file formats for uploading to a vBulletin board

I'm an old vBulletin user, from several motorcycling forums to which I belong, but I am now involved in a project which involves migrating a lot of content from the WebBoard 8 platform to a more modern and interactive location.

My Education Department uses Smarttech's SmartNotebook software as both a teaching medium and for the creation and distribution of teaching and training information. Ideally I would like to buy and use vBulletin as the front end for this project, but critical to that would be the ability to upload and download files in this format.

I know the standard file formats that are supported by vBulletin from my current useage of the software in my motorcycling forums, but I was wondering if there is any flexibility to add new file-format support for this?

We would host this forum internally, on a dedicated server, so I don't envisage that file SIZE should be an issue, but file format is critical.

(I'm not trying to be the tail wagging the dog, either, I just would like to know if we can do it; if we can, then we can move ahead, if we can't then we can investigate other options )

vBulletin can more or less support whatever filetype you tell it its okay to be uploaded.

Thank you for your extremely fast response!!!! May I then have a supplementary pre-sales question?
In order to implement vBulletin as the home for our old content, what package etc would be need to buy?
The notional 'customer-base' for this board would be around 110,000 people, but realistically the number of USERS would be only those who choose to join up, although we would be encouraging any teacher having classroom behaviour issues (it's a Behaviour-Focused WebBoard) to join, at least to read and learn.

As far as importing users from a third party, it'd need to be supported here: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_systems

If you just want a forum only package, no cms, no blogs, and only 30 days of support you could use it.
The suite includes the blogs, and cms (which can be disabled) and support for the life of the product.

I'd suggest checking out our demo: http://www.vbulletin.com/go/demo
