I'm thinking of buying a 2nd license. On my current forums I don't use usergroups. But, I need to know if I can use user groups to do what I need to do. The site would have 4 types of members: manufacturers (a), distributors (b), dealers (c) and consumers (d). I want to have private forums for a, b and c. Group c would need to have access to all forums, group a would have access to groups a, b and d. Group b would have access to b, c, and d. group d would only have access to group d. In other words it is a consumer site that has private forums for the manufacturers and distributors to communicate with dealers, but not with each other. Hopefully it makes sense what I am asking. Is it possible to make any content in CMS only available to specific user groups?

Yes, you can do that with usergroups and the forum permissions.
