  • What server do I need to handle about 10,000 members browsing at the same time?

    Hello there,

I want to buy the latest copy of VB. But first I have a few questions.
I have a very busy forum at this moment (about 10,000 members browsing the website at the rush hours) I am running now VB 3.8.7 , What server do you advice me to get to make sure everything is working smoothly.
Do you recommend any hosting company?

    Regards

    With vBulletin 5?

You will need four or five Xeon quad core servers with MySQL Replication and load balancing, 16GB RAM each, RAID striped SSDs, and Sphinx search addon.

There are performance bugs being worked on for VB5 and you would be better off waiting before attempting to use VB5 on a site of that size until they are resolved.

Are they going to fix in v5.0.1 or need to wait for service pack?

We don't release "Service Packs" usually. 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 will address a number of issues but we do not know at this time what version would make an upgrade for such a large site feasible. We will know more when we see how this forum improves in upcoming versions.

If you expect to run any large site with 10000 online users, you're going to need more than just a server. You're going to need several webservers and at least one hearty MySQL server.

I recommend you an optimized dedicated server:

        vBulletin Services I offer: www.Todo10.com
        Technical vB/Server/Hosting support Service also!

Like I said, he'll need four or five servers to handle that traffic with vBulletin 5.

Thank you everyone for the advice, I will wait for the updated copy of VB5. Do you know a good hosting company who can build such a cluster , let us say 4 webservers and 2 database servers.

            Regards

We do not make official recommendations, but we do have a hosting review forum here:

                http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11

You can also look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com, an independent review site. Sometimes you will find hosting specials there that aren't available elsewhere on the web.

                - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
