  • VBulletin 2 on UNIX Host: Any harder installing than on Windows Server

    Hello.

I am a newbie to Vbulletin and am most interested in purchasing Vbulletin 2 for my new forum. I was looking around a some host and would like to ask these questions.

    1. What is the difference between hosting it on a UNIX based server compared to a Win server?
    2. Any difference in the installation procedures ?
    3. Any difference in adminstration?
    4. Let say i were to start hosting vbulletin on a Unix server, would it be easy to migrate it onto a Win2k ?
    5. Is it possible to archive the year worth of discussion into easily accessible text file or someting else ?

    1. Usually *nix (Unix, Linux or some variant thereof) is cheaper than Windows hosting. It is also usually easier to admin *nix boxes (from the host's end).
    2. Not usually.
    3. No although there have been more reports of problems with vBulletin sending email on Win hosts than *nix.
    4. Relatively, yes, but why would ya want to do that?
    5. It's possible but you'd need a hack to do it. http://www.vbulletin.org/
