  • IPB 3.1.4 to vBulletin4 questions

Yes it's another one of those questions, but with some extras thrown in!

I used to always run vBulletin and got lured over to IPB, now i am thinking of converting back again.

    So here comes the questions!

    1) Can i convert from IPB 3.1.4 to the new vB

    2) Will this handle all of my photos in the galleries, and the blogs. If so, how?

    3) Last i remember, vBulletin had a built in paying membership option, which allowed you to charge members for memberships. Is this still going on and up to date?

    4) When/If i did the conversion, will it affect my database? When i moved from vBulletin to IPB the IPB importer did not modify anything in the database, so if it went wrong everything was safe still.

    5) I have vBulletin 4.x Publishing Suite license, does this mean i never have to pay for a new vBulletin license?

    6) This forum seems pretty zippy, is that because of the server, or has the software been upgraded to run smoother?

    Thanks!

    1. Yes. Please note that since IPB passwords are encrypted, they cannot be imported. Your users will need to reset their passwords after the import. You can read more about this here:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_passwords

    2. Not the Gallery, but we do have a separate importer for the Blog.

    Invision Community Blog
    Tier = 2
Source version support in ImpEx = 1.2.4
    • Import blog user
    • Import blog category
    • Import blog
    • Import blog comments
    • Import blog attachment
    • Import blog moderator
    • Import blog rate
    • Import blog trackback

    3. vBulletin does include a built-in paid subscription function. You can view the documentation here:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/subscriptions

There is no built-in option for users to sign up for subscriptions during registration. This option is only available in their User CP after they've complete their registration.

What you can do is limit the 'Registered' usergroup to view just one Announcement forum (through Usergroup and Forum Permissions) and post the subscription options in that forum. Then close it to new posts.

    4. The importer only reads the IPB database. It will not remove or modify anything.

    5. You have free access to all vB 4.x versions released. vB5 and onward will involve an upgrade cost (TBD.)

    6. These forums are running the standard install with some minor add-ons related to support functions. Not anything that would increase performance.

That is correct. We do not have a Gallery so there is nothing to import that to.

Just another question i quickly thought of. IPB has member albums too, although they *may* have been moved/integrated into the gallery system. Will i lose them too, or will they be converted into vB's member albums?

No gallery or albums pics are imported. Sorry.
