I used this site to do a comparison of site downloads with the following results. I acknowledge that some of the results differ because of the differing content. I wish to put together a website which complies with Yahoo Best Practices for Speeding Up Your Web Site! From this document the biggest performance hits are in the
    1. number of http requests
    2. number of html (non cached) images

    My questions are as follows:
    1. What is the deal that vb 3.6.12 appears to be more complaint with practices than vb 4.1.2?
    2. What is in all that java script at 4.1.2?
    3. Is all that java in the vb 4.1.2 included or did you customize your site and add it?
    4. How did 3.6.12 have more CSS images?
    5. Again are css images included in 3.6.12 and not in 4.1.2 or is that another customization?
    6. How do I put static images in the css of 4.1.2
    7. Why does 3.7.3 have fewer http requests?
    8. we note that bbPress has no html images and low http requests!

I guess my biggest question is how do rip out a lot of vb 4.1.2 to get what I want which is something similar to the SDMB vb 3.7.3.

    Tks david

I've made my vBulletin 4 look like vBulletin 3.7.3. It took a lot of work but makes upgrading very time consuming.

      Thanks Andy

why did you upgrade to 4 and then hand code a down grade of UI to 3.73?

Are you saying that I can't get 4.1.2 UI to look like 3.73 just thru the ACP or through an off the shelf template?

Did vb 3.7.3 natively look like that 3.7.3 website above?

Are you saying that to strip things out I have to hand edit the files but to add things I can use the product system?

To be more accurate, my forum now looks like a 3 when viewing things like the forumhome. I wanted to upgrade to 4 because many of the changes are desirable.

That is correct. For example the navbar on 3.73 is much easier to use and modify than the clunky messy navbar tabs on 4. So I wrote my own navbar using simple tables.

The edits I made were all done to the templates.
