  • Thinking of getting VBulletin...

Currently I am using PHPbb as my forum software. I want to change it to VBulletin. Is there anyway I can import all my users and all my treads/posts from PHPbb to VBulletin upon installation so I don't lose all my posts and users?

    Thanks,
    Freibergs2002

You may use Impex. You may read about it here in the manual - Appendix 5: ImpEx Import System.

There is also a support forum here - vBulletin Impex Import System

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

I just wanted to add my 0.02:::
      GO FOR IT!

Before starting my website, I knew the vBulletin installation was a must.
With vB4 and the CMS, it has just gotten better and better.

      Go for it!
The "migration pains" will last just a couple of hours... after that, you're running the best possible software for a community+CMS.

      Hope that helps!
      Disable Block Cache --- y/N
      Leave this setting alone.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

Preemptive notification to the users can do wonders. Establish a migration plan, publicize it to the users and do it with enough time so that people have a chance to understand it. Also allow enough time for users to ask questions. Maybe write a FAQ in addition to the actual plan...

There will still be some lost users, but less than if you didn't publicize a migration plan ahead of the conversion.
          To be updated...

Don't migrate your users across. Simply tell them to create a new account.

              Would it recover their passwords?
              Impex cannot convert the passwords.
