    warez allowed ?

    Hi All,
I am about to buy a forum which is partially warez. Personally, I don't give a **** about warez. I am looking at it as a pure business.

I understand that vBulletin may revoke my license in case I re-distribute vBulletin copies, WHICH I WILL NOT BE DOING ANYWAY.

My question is, is it allowed to use vbulletin script for a warez forum?

    Thank You.

    Yes.

You can buy the software but it's up to you to keep it legal within the country you reside and/or operate. I've no issue hosting dodgey stuff (within reason), just make sure you keep that sort of stuff for private areas.

or just read the EULA where it states it clearly. If they enforce their EULA is questionable.

because those who steal and give away warez are sooooo trust worthy
ps.. don't bother with this. " we don't host warez" or "I'm not personally posting the links"
if you have a site with warez on it, it's ultimately your responsibility as to what is posted on it.

A business built off piracy. Aren't we enterprising?

If you mention that the site is warez-related, or make it easy to post warez links, or refuse DMCA takedown notices, or otherwise act as a safe harbor for illicit material, then I hope you have deep pockets.

Sounds like a really dumb business decision but good luck sleeping at night knowing you're deliberately contributing to assisting to distribute copyrighted material.

I would be curious as to a staff member's answer to this too... Obviously we know this happens all the time... there was even a guy advertising a warez site in his sig at vb.org and the staff there still helped him (though someone deleted his sig)- what is the official position on warez boards? I imagine like adult boards they probably allow it if your host doesn't have a problem with it but that is only an ASSumption.

I would sleep at least as well as Adobe decision makers who set the price of photoshop to $700.

The official the last time I heard Steve Machol say something, was : We do not police the content of web sites.
Their current EULA says you can't use it, and I believe they won't act on anything unless there's a court order going or whatever.

They're not the internet police, and probably don't have the resources or the anti piracy team to go and scan web sites of their customers.

I doubt any policy gets enforced. Doesn't mean it's ok to do it.. I think it's actually pretty sad.

It's like writing a bad letter in Word, .. Microsoft isn't responsible.
