Are user names & passwords required??

I am looking to build a forum and was wondering, does the software require that anyone who views the forum and use it require a username and password? We would like it if people could come and use it without having to register for it.

you can setup anyway you like, by default all usergroups apart from the banned, can see all your forums, unless you set the permissions not to.

for example a new visitor comes to your site, they would be able to see all your forums, but not post, they would have to register or you can set it to allow guests to post threads.

but you may say want to have a forum for only admins, then you could set the permissions for admin only forum to not let anyone apart from the admin group see it.

You should be careful about what you let guests do, i.e. uploading attachments I wouldn't recommend

You can allow guests to post.

You would have to modify the default permissions to enable this.

Spammers are going to love you. With out having to register they can post thier garbage at will. At least with having to register you can set some spam controls in place.
