vB4 has a new feature called template merging, it takes changes from templates and attempts to place them in your style. If it's unable to then it gives you a notice and gives you the changes to make your self. Or something like that, I haven't tested it myself yet, but it appears to be working for other users.
really ? wow .. sounds a bit dangerous to me .. not sure i like the idea of a script trying to migrate my code .. eh well .. time will tell ..
I think i might just redo it using the latest version to be sure ..

I didn't use a parent style . When you say it will try to merge the template and make the changes for me , what exactly do you mean? Im under the assumption that a version update isnt going to modify custom themes ? I mean, how could it ? if i wrote a custom theme from the ground up , how could the upgrade know how to modify that ?

Sorry, im coming from an SMF background .. there a skin is a directory with CSS , PHP and images that the installer never touches , still wrapping my head around vB.

since it was just stylevars (I assume just color changes), then it shouldn't be to hard or time consuming to start over, why not upgrade your test site, and it will try to merge the templates and make the changes automatically for you.

    Question about 4.0.1 and theme

    Hi,

Just a quick one, I purchased the 4.0 suite when it came out , and have been tinkering away on a new theme for a while now using the gold release.. I took a copy of the default theme and modified it .

I plan on doing a fresh install of 4.0.1 on my production system (iv been working on a local test version)

My question is, see’ing as I developed my new theme based on the original 4.0 theme, and there appears to be large amounts of changes to the theme in 4.0.1 , does this mean I have to redo my theme , basing it off the new 4.0.1 default theme ?

Ie, most of the changes I did was just through stylevars (with a handful of template changes im prepared to lose) . Theres no way to bring across those stylevars alone is there ?

Or is it just a better idea to start again? …

    Cheers
