  • Guess, gold is needed to do some creative accounting. We will have platinum release soon (after two gold releases called 4.01 and 4.02).

      • Just upgraded my test forum to vb 4.0 gold and picked up on a few interface bugs; also noticed some css not done on the memberlist page. It's still a bit early for a release, how would a normal user understand the benefit?

I managed to better understand the css editor in the admincp, they need to re-think the interface.

vb4.0 functions, but following this has been a disappointing experience.

        • OMG the gnashing of teeth and tearing of clothes is definatly ON. Micosoft does this stuff all the time IE Hot Fixes which you probably get every other day.

Just chill out and let it develop. The constructive comments are good as they help.

Grow a pair folks and let these guys do what you allow Microsoft to do everyday.

For the love of PETE! LOL

2-10 x query load than forumhome. Server killer.

                    • I don't like to post the following because I don't want to sound like a troll, and I like the vbulletin software a lot, but I have to warn other users and let the developers know that my experience has been less than good:

DO NOT INSTALL the CMS in a live production site specially if you earn money from it. It's just broken in too many sections, and I'm very disappointed with the vbulletin team. I gave them a chance but it's just no good right now. Simple things like adding comments, and displaying the date ( THE DATE, for pete's sake!) are broken. My articles show this date: Published on %21-%b-%2009 (edit: Yeah, it is definitely slower in comparison to vb 3.8, but I have a dedicated server so it hasn't gone to it's knees yet, I have only 3 articles so far)

I can take a few quirks, I enjoy learning new systems and I was actually excited about the new features, but the CMS is just unusable. It also seemed to mess with my usergroup permissions, so if you have paid forum members I wouldn't go there yet. (See this thread if you can help me : http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...eads&p=1880297 )

I have been with vbulletin since about 3.0.x, and if you put all the bugs together of all those versions since then, I think the new CMS would still have more. So sad, vbulletin u_u

That said, give them a chance in about 6 months and see how much has been fixed. But right now ... I'm so frustrated and just couldn't recommend this to anyone. Also, I don't know that any of this applies to just the forum upgrade, the forums seem about as reliable as usual except for a few niggling CSS problems (this one in particular, for me, but most people use Firefox I guess: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/proje...?issueid=33421 if you use Opera please support it so it gets more attention )

edit: If you check my post history I hope you understand that the last thing I want to do is to be negative about the vbulletin team, but I feel this time a little criticism is necessary. It should be to both our benefits (vbulletin and the end user) to call attention to this and get it fixed as fast as possible.

edit again: Wow, I do feel a little better after venting about it, I hope someone listens. All in all, it's not that bad.

And how many articles you have that are being really readed and total of users online reading those?

Is this the site that has a 10 active members? No offence, but I don't think that is indicative of reliability and performance.

I have about 200-300 users online at any time, 600,000 posts, and the drop in speed is significant, but it's not a deal killer for me yet. However I only have 3 articles posted so far, and it is a VPS. Ask me again when I have thousands of articles!

If I had to rate it, I'd say before, with vb 3.8, it was a 10 in speed (memcached helped immensely), and now it's about a 6 or 7. Usable, if not Google-speed.

However, on those big boards with thousands of users, oy... who knows?

Vbulletin itself doesn't seem particularly slower than before... I'm more concerned about the broken features of the CMS, although the inefficiency of the queries demands attention too.

edit: Another concern is that if this is the default speed with no mods or anything, I'm probably not going to be adding any plugins anytime soon. I am also not using Blogs, Calendar, and a lot of other features - just CMS + Forum so far.

                              • Yup the number of queries on the CMS is insane. Page loads are often 0.3+ seconds, which is 3x more than the rest of my site. Poor MySQL.
