    Curious about upgrade path

    Greetings everyone and vb team.

I am excited about the VB4 release and have been taking steps to prep my site for the upgrade.
I realize that many "mods" will no longer work and most are probably no longer neccessary anyways,
so I have been uninstalling the majority of stuff and "toys" my users have enjoyed.

I have wittled my uninstall down to a few major mods.

    vbGallery, vbOptimizer, vbAdvanced, and IBProArcade.

I don't expect any support for those mods here, but I am curious if I can successfully upgrade my site to vb4 without uninstalling those mods.
I don't have a problem getting rid of the ash-and-trash, but I would like to leave those "installed" per se so when those developers upgrade the scripts, I will be ready to go.
Not to mention the database of games and pictures and such.

So essentually I guess I am asking...

Will the vb4 upgrade process if you have some mods still installed?
I realize those mods won't work and that's fine, I just don't want to loose the data so it can be used when those mods are updated.

Thanks for your time and work

This is probably better asked over at vbulletin.org.

AFAIK there is a new version of vBadvanced in the works. vBa Gallery will probably be updated, I own it but haven't received the support I paid for so it has not been working for me at all since vB 3.8 was launched!

      Hey thanks for the reply.
Yeah I realize mod specific questions are better at .org but I was interested if the upgrade.php file had any types of "show-stoppers" that would stop the upgrade or something if I left some "mods" installed,
or any other problems I might encounter. I guess I was looking toward Alpha testers who have upgraded for their experiences.

      I hear you on vbGallery...

        Probably.

If the mods didn't alter the base db structure, and are disabled at the time of Upgrade (this might even be done for you by the script, dunno), there shouldn't be any issues.

          Ace, thank you very much!

By base db structure I am assuming you are refering to vb original tables, which makes me think that "add-on" tables would be left alone?

That said, I do know that some mods (like vbExperience which I uninstalled a while back) added a few columns to the user table.
Uninstalling this mod did not remove those columns. (i recall seeing them in my exploring of my database)
I hope the upgrade will continue despite those types of situations. Which I guess is the root of my question.

Ofcourse I will do everything I can to get stuff as base db structure as I can, but I will surely miss a few things .

I really mean - "Does the mod do any deletion of existing vB columns/entries? Will the upgrade script be able to see what it needs to update?"

Most (all?) mods I have seen for vB don't mess with the skeleton, they just add bits of flesh, so to speak. When I was a phpBB and IPB user before vB, I recall certain mods of their software required the skeleton db to be altered.
