I'm getting ready to set up a forum for our internal network. I don't have much knowledge of MySQL and configuring MySQL databases. I tried PHPBB but the MySQL part got me stuck and now I'm looking at this. The CPanel is really nice, but I don't know how easy it is to get set up if I were to get a license or not.
Should I buy this with the knowledge I have?

Speaking from past experiences, VB is one of the easiest pieces of software to setup. Create a database and a username / password and then run the script. But follow the instructions, its simple. Until I started using this software I had never used MYSQL. The great thing about this software is that they have this forum, there support ticket system and tons of people including myself to help out if you get stuck.
Hope this is a help!

You said you have a cpanel...MySQL is a part of that I am assuming. This shouldn't be that difficult to setup a new DB with a user name and password. VB it self comes with the instructions to set it up, its not difficult at all. If all else fails you can always get with your host to get steps to set up your DB in MYSQL. Once that is done you input a few things into your config file and run the setup.....I am sure you would have no problems with this. If you do like I said in my previous post just ask here, there are tons of folks here willing to help you out.

I have found vbulletin to be a breeze to setup and deploy. Worse case scenario is you might need a little help from your hosting provider setting up a MySQL database. I'm a Coldfusion programmer and I don't use MySQL except for my one vbulletin site but found it easy to do with a little help from my hosting provider. there are differences between MySQL and MS SQL. However, once that is setup and you have the login information then things are a breeze from there. You only have to edit one config file and then run the script. I use HostMySite.com and they are extremely helpful and then as others have mentioned it's as simply as running a script. I don't think you could go wrong with vbulletin. It's pretty heavy duty. :-)Comment
