We provide bug-fix and security patch support on a negative 2 version basis. Here is an example.
          Code:
                                  Version Level of Support
              Current Version 4.1 Full Support
              V(-1) 4.0 Bug + Security
              V(-2) 3.8 Security
              V(-3) 3.7 End of Life
So this means even after 5.0 is released under this schedule, we will still do maintenance and security patches to 4.X for a period of time.

I am concerned about the date of release for vB5, in the past each version has lasted 3 years + i think but what is approximate life of vB4. If I decide to purchase the vB4 for $235and the vB5 is released within a year. This is highly unlikely however the terms state that the updates are available for the life of vB4, which may indeed be a year . Is there a minimum period that the updates for vB4 be available to its users?

I would like a response from the officials if possible. Thank you for your time

Hold your horses. You are waiting on something that hasn't even been thought of.

Just to be totally clear, this period of reducing support only goes into effect after a major update, e.g. 5.0, 6.0, etc., right?

                It won't go like this:
                Code:
                Version Level of Support
                 Current Version 4.5 Full Support
                 V(-1) 4.4 Bug + Security
                 V(-2) 4.3 Security
                 V(-3) 4.2 End of Life
                Correct?

That is incorrect. vBulletin 3.8 will become End of Life when vBulletin 4.2 is released (assuming these successive releases: 3.8, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2). This is pretty much how it always has been.
