The Point of Articles?

Probably a stupid question. I've never used CMS for my websites. I just stuck to the forums.

But what are the point of articles? I noticed it seems to be a big feature in 4.0 where admins and now users can post articles.

What exactly are these used for? How are they different than blogs or regular posts?

They're more for organizing content like what would be on a regular site. You could do a forum where only a group of people can post and do it that way, this just offers more presentation and site-like appeal. Where it has a front page with article highlights, archives, categories, and otherwise just more website-feel.

Well, to answer your question from my perspective: the CMS is quite useful as I just launched a news website for a city. It will save me tons of money from getting actual programmers to program me a custom news script, and the free software such as Arras can only do so much.

I take it many won't buy the Suite because not all websites need news publishing, but in my case, and cases similar to mine, news publishing is what is the most important. I am actually quite involved and have purchased a geodomain, which used up my entire budget; vBulletin will allow me and others who are in the news industry to publish news articles in a professional, reliable way. The biggest plus is that everything is tied together: forum, news, and the blog. So the users won't have to register twice or three times just to post comments... it's a all in one convenience suite, as I call it.

Can you post articles on the front page and allow only certain usergroups to view them like non-registered/registered groups?
