phpbb3 to VBulletin

I will be purchasing vBulletin 4 soon but would like to know if I need to build an exact copy of my phpBB 3 forum in vBulletin before I transfer my files? or does the whole thing including cats and forums copy over?

I currently have an active phpbb3 for with almost 400 members and 12600 posts - Can I port all the member information, and the posts over if I change to VBulletin? Also, can you give me an idea of the benefits should I decide to buy.
