Internet Brands is located in the USA and based in California. Furthermore, for many years Jelsoft actively marketed their products to customers in the United States. They are most certainly subject to "long arm" jurisdiction anywhere in the United States.

Don't know why you would even contemplate taking the guys to court. Afterall we all have been helped by them in the past and we should really respect them for it now and be prepared to help out others just like Steve and the guys have helped us.
Pretty much do what I do and help others out when you can. If you have a question like this instead of ranting about it on here, take it to them via email

They will speak to you there.

I run in excess of 25 forums and I am glad that I did not use vbulletin on all of them and only have vb on 8 or 9 of them rest run on other scripts and doing well. I do not understand vbulletin's urgency to make money.

I am sure you will be minting for some time but this is not a very good long term business stratgy atall.

I didint know about vb4 untill I logged in here today to buy 3 more licenses for new forums... good that you are making progress but in the process you are pushing away business...

I dare you to make me buy more licenses from you in future.

And I am not renewing any of the old owned licenses...

Utter nonsense. If you have v4.0 you can run it forever, should you wish to never again upgrade the forums. You are not forced to upgrade to each new major version. That's simply untrue and stupid.

If the major versions arrive too quickly, then most people, I believe, will probably skip one or even two versions to suit their budget. Simple really.

Exactly. I think that is one of the points that are getting many of the members here a tad pissed off. As you said; The option is GONE.

No offense but many of you are highly uninformed.

From my understanding, Jelsoft was bought by Internet Brands. The company as you knew it - Jelsoft V1 - was the company who gave you the annual upgrades, etc. and you were helped by the founders and their staff, Wayne, Steve, Kier, etc. As a result of Internet Brands taking over Jelsoft (now Jelsoft "version 2"), your past contributions are memories to the remaining staff here. The founders and primary developers, e.g. James and Kier, are gone. You have a blank slate and new face now an vice versa.

Jelsoft v2 aka Internet Brands have decided that you had a very good thing for a very long time. Jelsoft V1 treated us well. They believe that the vBulletin is worth more money and are dictating to us their new terms. They believe that you will, grumbling or not, ante up your chunk of cash now and, when version 4 is released, you'll be in blissful salvation forgetting all about what is happening.

Time to unsubscribe. Good luck to all of you and your decisionmaking.

Asking customers to pay for a product without a demo, release date or beta and only 7 screenshots is a horrible PR move. You are alinating your customers.

Without any evidence how are we to know if your product is better than the competition, much of which is free.

To me it seems like a very desperate attempt to inflate your querterly reports. If you are in so much trouble that you have to do that then why should I have any faith in your product.

If you do not want to lose customers over this then you should:
                  1. Have a real pre-sale instead on end of quarter sale. The pre-sale should last as long as the product is in beta. At the very least it should last until after the release date is announced and there is a demo.
                  2. Refund money to any customers that were negatively affected by the license changes.
                  3. Make it clear what customers are receiving with demos or videos. If you feel you are close enough to ask for money then you should be close enough to show live demos or video demonstrations.

A simple announcement will make all of this resentment go away, "After speaking with our customers we decided to change the terms of our pre-sale.".

That is exactly why I bought an owned license. I thought it would be cheaper over time. It is actually more expensive. Telling me that you are trying to reward people that did not try to save money in the first place does not make me feel better. I wrote an email asking for a refund of the difference. The response was rude.

I stand corrected. I did not know that 4.0 would be supported forever, no worries about bugs and security problems. Unlike 3.8 that will only receive support until 4.2 comes out. My bad.

Point of clarification: Nothing is supported "forever", however it will be supported through its end-of-life. You will, however, be able to run it forever, or at least until your end of life. :-)

Ray, can I get a credit for my 2 week old owned license against the deal the expired people get? Doing this one little thing for me and others similarly situated would end most of the grief you guys are getting on this upgrade deal. It would level the playing field for all and give you a fresh start.

I am looking forward to seeing it and being able to try it before I upgrade which I have to next month. My license expires on november 19th.

Even in your sarcasm you are wrong. v4.x will one day no longer have ongoing support, sure, but you can run it as your last forum until you die.
