Disgusted at VB4.

I feel the vBulletin team did a horrific job deciding the terms, prices, etc. for vBulletin 4, and would like to share my disgust with other vBulletin users, and vBulletin team.

I absolutely love the software vBulletin has to offer, but as far as putting the customers first.. what an absolute joke. The only beneficiaries from this situation is the ones banking the upgrade fee.

I spent $180 to buy the Owned license.. having a year (I believe) of FREE upgrades. Now I have to pay $135 to upgrade to vB4? Seriously?

While this may make things "easier" in the future, it's just a complete mess for those who have annual licenses or owned licenses from previous versions.

I refuse to pay $135 to upgrade to something that I already own. To put it bluntly, I was screwed out of $180.. I should have bought an annual license, then paid $135 when that expired (since I've only had my license since May)... correct?

I apologize in advance if I misinterpreted what I read, and if that's the case PLEASE correct me. However, if I have to pay $135 bucks.. I absolutely refuse. I understand the hard work put into all vBulletin versions.. which is why I prefer VB over other softwares... but this is preposterous.


The people getting screwed are the customers who were with VB all along, and that's a huge smack in the face.

EDIT: Zeloreo is on-target. Good job! One small note: If your license is INACTIVE, meaning you did not renew your support, you'll have to pay the full-price. If you have renewed within the last year and are currently ACTIVE, it's $130 as noted below for getting the full suite.

1) v4 - the forums only - has a free upgrade for existing customers. FREE.

2) v4 - the suite with the new features - requires an extra payment.

This sounds fair to me, you only pay extra if you want the new features. Assuming that I have understood what I read correctly.

But you don't get any security updates after the end of the year you renewed your lisence.

they are expecting you to put down money down on something you can't see, sense or test. Bad times imho.

True, but terabyte is correct, blogs do not appear to be a part of of what is called 4.0 Forum .... perhaps someone from vB could clarify, since the blog is a add-on to 3.8.x .... will that blog add-on still work with 4.0 Forum?

Of course, there seems to be a lot of questions that someone from vB could clarify. What I'm really reading on these forums tonight is a tremendous amount of misunderstanding and confusion.

If it is true that upgrading just the forum is free, then that is a-okay with me. Again, it was just a misinterpretation and I stand corrected.

When the license was bought, I didn't get the blog add-on...

I've logged in and am getting an upgrade price of $250 which is odd because you can buy a new license for $235.

What is going on?
