  • member area ?

bugged the tech guy so much yesterday and today, i'll ask here... is the optional annual upgrade 60 or 40 dollars. (he said 40) secondly, i read something about a members only area ? is that extra support ?

    because i think it would be enough to ask here at the free forums right :}

(lastly, if i show a screenshot of a vbulletin powered forum, can we easily figure out which "theme" they are using ? i'm talking about vbulletin forums with a mobile interface)

    tks.

if you get a owned license, renewing support (for one year) costs $60. If you renew it within a timeframe it is only $40.
The member area is where you download the software, submit support tickets.

Lastly, vbulletin will not tell you which theme a forum is using, however, if you PM me the link to the forum I bet I could probibly figure it out.

      thanks blackfalcon... that helps.

now that i got you, you might know... can i run 2 forums for a short time on 1 database, during the switch ? just trying to keep my downtime to an absolute minimum..

*off to read about impex and the convert/migrate process*

You can always run two forums - one which is "live" and public, and a second install which must be in a password protected directory called "testvb" which is for development purposes.

sweet.... and for the record, they can post in both, or at least in the public one ?

            who is "they"?

Your testvb forum should really only be accessed by you and maybe one or two other "developers" that you have.

It's a testing forum to test things on. That's really all it is. The general public should not be allowed to post in it.

with "they" i meant my day to day users....

the testing forum will at first be for me, then for my co-mod/admin and then the public ("they")

No, the testing forum would never be for the public.

testing forums are to test things (such as plugins/mods etc.) on a forum that doesn't matter if it breaks, then if everything goes well you add it to your real forum.

So the old one is not vBulletin? You can run it as long as you like.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

Since everybody else seems to ignore the part I bolded

No. This is not possible (and has nothing to do with the possibility to install a testing-instance). Doubly so, if one of the two is not even vB, as you mentioned above.

As a regular member: you cannot do it.

                            Here is an easier way.

If the forum skin was done by an official source, say for example vbskins.com then a LOT of the time the original authors and designers put credits at the bottom of the page.

                            Example:

                            Powered by vBulletin 3.8.2
                            Copyright (C) Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd
                            Skin developed by: vBskins.com

then you can go to the site and download it xD
                            Jut a random internet person.

A message to all illegal users!

the "old" one is not vB.. it was more an idea to make sure vB works, users can still post on "old" forum, and it would transfer to the new one since they basiclly use the same database.

understood... bummer, i know this is general and varies per person, how long would you guestimate my forum will be down during convert ?
