  • Several Questions

Ok.. I am trying to decide which to go with, vbulletin or ipb..

Basically it comes down to which is cheaper for me in the long run..

I love the mods for vbulletin I also love the fact that vbulletin has nice seo standings.. But both my co-admin and I both dislike the acp. phpbb's acp in phpbb3 makes vbulletin's look seriously outdated. I also fell in love with a style that I haven't seemed to find for vbulletin yet...

vpb has decent mods.. and a nice style with a great acp..

My competitors run both.. very well.. sadly for me..

    Now for my questions.
Like I said, money is a major issue for me in these days and times.. So,
To get IPB up and running with my phpbb3 database intact, it will cost the base price of $149.99 and then an extra $60 to convert the database..

Where does vbulletin stand on this? I saw this topic:

But how easy is this to do? Also, how long does this take? Can someone with little to no experience working with mysql do this well? (I have some experience, I'm just asking to get an idea in my head)

Also, IPB's installation is provided with the purchase.. I don't need this but I would like to make sure it is done right by trained professionals.. or well.. trained enough.. Does Vbulletin offer this?

And finally, with Vbulletin 4 slowing coming out.. Will I be able to upgrade once it is released, or should I wait? (I plan to get the $180 package if I go for it.)

Thank you for your time and effort.

Yes, we have an import script for phpBB3. You can read about it here:

Please note that since phpBB3 passwords are encrypted, they cannot be imported. Your users will need to reset their passwords after the import. You can read more about this here:

We do not have an import service available at this time, but we are available for help and support if you need it. Since phpBB is the most used importer we have a lot of experience with it. To see what is involved please read the online Impex import instructions here:

There is no need to wait for vB4. You will be able to upgrade when this is released.
