  • New guy with some question???

Ok new to this place but Love the V B Forum and set up.

Thinking of changing from my SMF Forum over to the VB Forum.
Can a change over be done?
Which VB version is best to use?
Can the Threads and Posts ectÖ. be moved over too?
What about the members who are registered on the SMF Forum, do they have to re register again onto the VB Forum or can they be moved over too?

I know all the information is in a DB. everything ever posted, board formats, member information, PM's....everything is in a db????.

Sorry for lots of questions but like I said Iím one Simple User.

Yes ImpEx (import/export) can import your SMF database.

3.7.4 is the current stable version, but 3.8.0 is in beta stages. You should use 3.7.4 and upgrade when 3.8 goes "gold" (out of beta).

Yes, Posts and threads can be moved over. (everything that can be imported is viewable here)

Your members will not have to re register.

    Hope this answers your questions!

They may need to retrieve a new password thou.

I used this on my forum and it didn't import the passwords as they are encrypted, not a huge problem thou, plus it was years ago so dunno if its still like that

More forums are moving towards hashed passwords.
