  • Security and SSL

    Hi,

I would like to use vb to communicate with my employees and business associates.
I am concerned about the security and the transfer of highly sensitive data!
I would install vb within random character subfolders and have no web link to the directory.

My questions to the vBulletin team and community members is:
What steps can i take to maximize security on this non public / non commerce board?
    Would ssl be necessary?

I too am somewhat concerned. I'd like to use vbulletin as a better way of communicating with internal and remotely located employees.

We currently use VPN to connect to our server which is quite secure for now.

can set board to private and for your employees have them to write down their usernames and password and e-mail and set it to registered members only.

Hello. You can secure your directory with .htaccess/.htpasswd authentication. To generate username/password for it you can use this site

        http://home.flash.net/cgi-bin/pw.pl
vBProjects - Professional vBulletin Services and Solutions
        vBSpring - Premium vBulletin Add-ons

The only problem with that site is the passwords it generates are limited to platforms where Apache supports crypt, which according to Apache's documentation EXCLUDES Windows, Netware and TPF.
