  • Aftersale/presale question?

We currently have vbulletin license. We already use it for one of our sites, it's working, users are happy

Also, we have another site, with blog-kind engine for community. We think about moving it to vbulletin, but we are still unsure and our users unsure if they will like vbulletin more than previous engine too. Are we allowed to install already used vbulletin license in "testvb" directory, convert database from blog-kind engine to vbulletin and give users a chance to test new type of site during a week or so, in read-only or full-access format? If they will like it - of course we'll buy license, if they don't - we delete installation.
Just don't want to buy owned license w/o be sure that users will like new type of forum and won't run away

From your description, the vBulletin license agreement does not allow what you are asking with regard to allowing the "blog" users access to the testvb installation. The reason for this is the license agreement requires that the testvb installation must NOT be accessible to the public.

It's not "public", it will be closed for everyone, except users who registered before and will be installed only for demo - to show users how good on vbulletin could be the forum. So it's not directly commercial use, though I agree that it's not directly test use. What's why the question is.

If you have a valid Software license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.
It sounds like you won't allow guests to view it, but will allow your forum population to. This is still not allowed, unfortunately.

No sorry, you cannot allow users access to a test forum.
