    SMF Conversion

Greetings, just wondering if this would be possible: Get Vbulletin, install all the mods on it I want, then convert my SMF board to the already created Vbulletin board with the mods & such on it. or would I need to convert my SMF board to Vbulletin then do all the mods & such to it? Would be a lot easier & better with less downtime for the site if I could make the Vbuletin board then convert the SMF into it.

I would recommend doing the import before installing any mods since it's possible those mods could make changes to the database that would affect the import process.

Change CKEditor Colors to Match Style (for 4.1.4 and above)

I see, only problem with that is the amount of mods I want to implement would literally take me a couple days to fully get implemented the way I want them.. which means the entire site would be down for days because of that

I think I read somewhere that doing the import wouldn't affect the old forum at all, leaving it completely intact.. so I think importing after setting up the mods would be a lot less time consuming

You are, of course, free to ignore my suggestion. However if the are problems with the import then in order to get official support you will very likely have to start all over with no add-ons installed.

          Don't they all Steve?

Well....look at it this way, If you're forum is gonna be down "for a few days" then why not convert it over and turn it offline saying "Be back on XDay @ XTime" and then send out a mass email when you're forums are back up with the completed mods? That would be the easier/smarter thing to do.

            Simple answer of this:
My site is a graphic design website which holds many contests that are always going on, right now there is 3-4 going on with new parts daily or bi-daily.
Going down for a couple days would destroy the contests which I just can't do =\

You could put a hold on the starting of any new contests, then when all the current ones have finished, convert.

You could also do a test import on a fully modified database first just to make sure it works.

That's what I was thinking because if I do that the old 1 would be 100% intact still and if it doesn't work then just keep using that till I can reach a time to convert it over & then apply mods

Well that's your own fault, not Jelsoft's.

No you didn't, but your complaining about how you can't convert over the safe & smart way due to a few contests going on at your forums, so you postpond them for a day or two.
