  • What can it do?

    Right peeps,

I am running a forum using SMF 1.14 and i am happy with it but i think there must be a better solution, hence these questions...

Ok will all themes work without user interaction via some manual install and are they auto install via the cp?

Do mods also work on any theme without user interaction via some manual install and are they auto install via the cp?

Is there SEF/SEO attributes to the software?

    Whats the backup help like?

    Cheers fellas..

Installing a theme is easy. Usually just uploading some images and importing a file into the style manager.

As for mods, it varies. Some mods don't require template edits and some do.

Out of the box, there are no "human-readable" URLs, however vB has added some SEO in other ways.

What do you mean backup help?

To add to what CHIPIT said, for mods that don't require template edits, you just import an XML file and/or upload a few PHP files. A lot of vB mods are now that way and literally takes seconds to install. It's almost like the installation process of Windows.

You will need FTP access to be able to upload your images, unlike smf they do not come in a packaged file. Upon downloading themes/skins you will get the install .xml file (Which you can upload and install via the admincp) and then you will get the images file (Which needs uploading via FTP to your /images/ directory).

Do mods also work on any theme without user interaction via some manual install and are they auto install via the cp?
Yes, most of them will edit themselves into your custom themes, and are installed via the Admin CP. Some however, require you to upload extra files into the forum root to have certain functions.

Is there SEF/SEO attributes to the software?
There is no official work already done, but you can easily change your meta keywords and description via the admincp. There is external software (Free or paid) that can fix your URL's and other features, for the Search engines.

        Whats the backup help like?
You can make the forum produce a backup of your database, or do this manually via Phpmyadmin. Wether your host allows you to do complete hosting account backups (Databases 'n' all) is a different matter.

        Hope this helped
