No sorry. vB requires MySQL. There is no postgresql version available.

Why can't you have mysql on your server? You can only use mysql with it.

This is not available. Sorry we did not make that clear. You can, of course, hire a programmer to rewrite vB if you want. I suspect it will be quite expensive.

You should try hiring a SYSTEMS ADMIN to do the work for you.

This isn't actually his server, if you read the first post.

Also if your faculty will not install MySQL, you shouldn't even attempt to install MySQL yourself unless you've asked permission to do so.

This is something that vBulleting should begin considering being that Oracle has aquired MySQL and is now trying to merger with Sun.

The "open source" nature of MySQL is in question now and many are begining to seek alternatives. I guess it's early enough that MySQL users can seek and or implement contingency plans if need be.

That shouldn't affect vbulletin, vbulletin isn't open source.

Also it hasn't been confirmed whether the merger will be ok'ed and if it is, we don't even know what Oracle's plans would be for MySQL.

As users gravitate away from MySQL, they will gravitate away from vBulletin too, don't ya think?

As for the comments about using MySQL for cloud computing, companies like Oracle will jump over hoops to try and sell their "enterprise" solution over any freeware, open source that's out there. It was very wise of them to have acquired MySQL. I'm sure their aim isn't to develop it further but constrain it so as not to compete with their big bloatware.
