    Profitable?

    I'm thinking seriously about starting an online community, and was wondering if most people run these as a hobby, or is there profit to be made? Thanks

    It depends on how you run your forums but you can make money off your visitors through advertising, affiliate programs or selling products directly.

      Most people I know of that run a board do it as a hobby. They do it because they enjoy it not because they want to make money .
